Halloween is back: watch out for the chills…

As the autumn season gradually settles in, many children and their parents will be going door-to-door at dusk on 31 October 2023. Beware, though, as you may come across some horrifying creatures and haunted houses!

A brief history of Halloween

This 2,500-year-old tradition is thought to have originated in County Meath in Ireland. It has travelled a long way since then. Halloween has been part of the Luxembourg landscape for years. Of course, Letzshop.lu and its local traders are also going trick-or-treating.

The word Halloween is actually a contraction of the expression ‘All Hallows Eve’. In its Celtic origins, the festival was named after the season ‘Samain’, which here represents the autumn and winter periods.

Halloween, its antics and folklore!

Your children have no doubt been asking you for weeks to buy them a disguise for the traditional night out on 31 October. This set of pencils will be perfect for creating the gruesome make-up for the occasion. Let your artistic talents do the talking! It’s a fun moment to share with the family, and one that the youngest members of the family look forward to. You can’t put a price on their satisfaction as they collect sweets from house after house. The essential accessory for the quest is the famous ‘candy bag’. To counter the fickle weather, don’t forget to provide them with rain boots and a rain coat.

In other homes, when the children are much older, they might even organise a special horror story evening with a delicious home-made cake and candles to set the mood. It’s a late night, because story after story, no one dares move! As we know that the most fearful are the adults, we’ve got everything covered at Letzshop. After a glass of this delicious whisky from the other side of the world, everyone will finally fall asleep in the living room, laughing about it at breakfast the next morning.

Halloween is just around the corner!

You’re all familiar with the decorative version of the Halloween pumpkin that proudly adorns house fronts. Its autumn-like colours are unmistakable. It’s that little touch imported from the USA. Few people know that pumpkins are also delicious. Sweet or savoury, for that matter. Legend has it that it makes the people who eat it immortal.

If you’re not planning to live forever, you can still take advantage of its benefits. Its seed oil, for example, is reputed to be dietetic, diuretic and helps combat prostate problems and diabetes. Pumpkins also contain antioxidant properties, fibre and vitamins.

So celebrating Halloween every day makes the little ones happy, and it’s a great way to perk up the older ones at this time of year.
Happy Halloween !
