Norbert Eilenbecker of Ourdaller S.c. welcomed us to Kalborn, located in the north of Luxembourg and took us on a tour of the production facilities. A foray through the nearby fields was also on the programme. The numerous Ourdaller products are of course available on site or at Letzshop.

Please present yourself

My name is Norbert Eilenbecker and I am one of the six farmers of the Ourdall Cooperative. In October 1994, the ‘Bauerenintiativ fir d’Eislek an den Naturpark Our’, BEO for short, was created. Gradually, three other cooperatives were founded, namely BEOLA, which processes only grains into edible oils, BEOGRAN, which processes buckwheat into flour and pasta, and Cornelyshaff S.c., which produces the well-known ‘Ourdaller Moschtert’ from mustard seeds. To identify ourselves even more with the region, Cornelyshaff S.c. became the company Ourdaller S.c. in 2017, which is responsible for the marketing of all products.

The Ourdaller brand stands for…

…regional and sustainable agriculture and food production. We attach great importance to transparency and traceability. Regional cultivation and processing of raw materials are very important to us. The Ourdaller brand guarantees the consumer absolute transparency and short distances to regional products, as the harvested grains are processed into high-quality food in the workshops in Kalborn and the surrounding area.

You produce a variety of products

Yes, exactly. For example, you will find cold-pressed edible oils – rapeseed, sunflower, linseed, hemp and poppy seed oil – but also different types of mustard, such as sweet mustard with honey or beer mustard, gluten-free buckwheat flour as well as pasta made from buckwheat flour and durum wheat semolina in our shop. Furthermore, we also plant various grains such as hemp, mustard and poppy seeds and produce different kinds of hemp tea and of course our local honey.

Besides the oils, our bestsellers are the different kinds of mustard, the buckwheat flour and the pasta.

Your favourite product?

My favourite at the moment is the hulled buckwheat grains, an all-rounder in the kitchen and a perfect substitute for rice.
