Anne Faber, renowned Luxembourgish culinary author, unveils her latest work, “Baking with Anne,” a celebration of baking through authentic, accessible recipes that reimagine the classics of Luxembourgish gastronomy.
The inspiration behind "Baking with Anne"
After publishing five cookbooks exploring British and Luxembourgish specialties with a personal twist, Anne Faber noticed a growing interest among her readers for a book dedicated solely to baking. Given the popularity of her sweet recipes, it seemed natural to meet this demand. For Anne, baking is a soothing activity that brings great satisfaction, both for oneself and for loved ones.
“My baking recipes were very appreciated in all my books. It seems that baking generates a lot of enthusiasm, and I completely understand why: it’s so relaxing, and what a pleasure to prepare good things for oneself and for loved ones.”
A collection of diverse and timeless recipes
In her book, Anne Faber offers 75 baking recipes developed and perfected over the past 20 years. Among these is a simplified version of the Bamkuch, making this specialty more accessible to amateurs. The book also highlights emblematic Luxembourgish specialties, such as the Bretzel and Boxemännchen, which mark the country’s culinary traditions. Keen to offer a variety of flavors, Anne has included savory recipes like a no-knead focaccia and cheese biscuits, ideal for appetizers. This book is designed to accompany readers through all seasons, celebrating the gastronomic richness of Luxembourg.
“My goal was to find a balance between Luxembourgish classics, my favorite recipes, and some new must-have recipes, like my brownie cookies and a tiramisu-style cake.”
Anne Faber prefers to avoid fleeting trends, believing that the daily influx of new fashions on platforms like TikTok and Instagram can be overwhelming. She observes that these trends are often more sensational than genuinely good. Therefore, she focuses on timeless, proven recipes in her book, capable of bringing joy today and even in 20 years. These recipes are designed to last a lifetime, rather than just going viral on social media for a few days.
Commitment to local ingredients
True to her philosophy, Anne Faber emphasizes the use of local and seasonal ingredients. Flour, sugar, and eggs come from local producers, reflecting a cuisine rooted in Luxembourg’s terroir. Her book also highlights regional and seasonal ingredients, such as rhubarb and wild garlic in spring, or squash and apples in autumn. Thus, she celebrates Luxembourg’s culinary treasures throughout the year.
“It is important to me to work as much as possible with local ingredients. Of course, I use our wonderful Luxembourgish butter, which is, by the way, the best butter I’ve tasted in the world.”
The "Anne’s Spice Duo": a natural extension
Complementing the book, Anne Faber offers the “Anne’s Spice Duo“, two spice blends developed in collaboration with the German company Rimoco. The “Bagel Spice” is a mix of seeds, dried garlic, and onion powder, perfect for savory preparations. The “Sweet Spice” combines notes of cinnamon, ginger, and a touch of tonka bean, ideal for autumn desserts.
“I created two spice blends that I often use in my recipes. I always mixed them myself, and I thought it would be really convenient to have them ready-made.”
At Letzshop.lu, you can exclusively find a gift set including the book “Baking with Anne,” accompanied by the spice blends and a cookie cutter. For an even more complete experience, an XL gift set is also available, including a second book.
Future projects and upcoming events
Anne Faber has many projects in the pipeline. She is currently working on a new show for RTL Luxembourg, exploring the culinary connections between Luxembourg and Portugal. This eight-episode series will begin airing at the end of January.
“There are many projects in preparation… I spent a lot of time this year traveling through Portugal to discover the culinary wonders of this beautiful country and to meet people with Luxembourgish roots in Portugal.”
Additionally, Anne plans to participate in the Walfer Bicherdeeg on November 16 and 17, as well as the Thank You Buy Christmas market on November 24 in Hollerich.
