Tradition, innovation and passion

Corinne Kox of the Domaine L&R Kox welcomed us in Remich. The new vintages were presented here in the garden and of course tasted. Wine lovers will not be disappointed by these wonderful wines, which can of course also be found on Letzshop.

Please introduce yourself

I am Corinne Kox, the current owner of Domaine L&R Kox, a family-run winery located in the picturesque town of Remich. Our winery has a rich history that dates back to my great-grandparents, who first established the family home and the first cellar in 1909. My parents Laurent and Rita (L&R) saw the immense potential of the vineyards and decided to transition fully into winemaking, dedicating themselves to crafting exquisite wines that capture the essence of the terroir, after my dad came back from his winemaker studies in Germany. Today, we are constantly striving to push the boundaries of winemaking to bring something new to the table each year. With the support of our skilled team, we are committed to creating unique and exceptional wines that meet and exceed the expectations of our consumers.

What do you value in winemaking?

Thank you for the question. To us, winemaking is an art that requires a delicate balance of tradition, innovation, and passion. At Domaine L&R Kox, we value the following principles in winemaking:

Respect for nature: We believe that great wines start with the terroir and the environment. We prioritise sustainable farming practices to preserve the natural ecosystem of our vineyards and ensure that our wines reflect the unique character of our region.

Attention to netail: We pay diligent attention to every step of the winemaking process, from the selection of the grapes to the bottling of the final product. We believe that each detail matters and can make a difference in the quality of the wine.

Innovation: While we deeply respect the traditions of winemaking, we also fully embrace new techniques and technologies that can improve the sustainability of our winemaking, as well as improve the quality and consistency of our wines.

Passion: Winemaking is more than just a business for us – it is a way of life. We are driven by a deep passion for wine and a desire to create exceptional wines that bring joy and pleasure to our customers.

Overall, we believe that winemaking is a type of work that requires a mix of science, skill, and creativity. By valuing these principles, we strive to produce wines that are not only delicious but also reflect the essence of our vineyards and the rich history of our winery.

You like to combine the modern with the old traditions.

Yes, we are committed to blending modern techniques with old traditions in our winemaking at Domaine L&R Kox. We believe that this approach allows us to create wines that are not only unique and innovative but also deeply rooted in the terroir and history of our region. I would also like to highlight that Domaine L&R Kox is a pioneer in the production of Crémant de Luxembourg wines. Crémant de Luxembourg is a sparkling wine that is made using the traditional method of Champagne, and it has only been produced in Luxembourg since 1991. As one of the first wineries to produce Crémant de Luxembourg, we are proud to have played a significant role in establishing this wine as a symbol of Luxembourg’s winemaking heritage.

At our winery, we are constantly experimenting with new techniques and innovations, while also respecting and preserving the traditional methods that have been passed down through generations of winemakers. For example, we are proud to offer a Crémant vintage from 2008, which demonstrates our commitment to ageing our wines to perfection.

We are also proud to have produced the very first cross-border sparkling wine, which reflects our innovative and boundary-pushing approach to winemaking.

In addition, we are also exploring new and exciting methods such as Kvevri, an ancient Georgian technique that involves fermenting and ageing wine in clay pots buried in the ground. This method, which has an 8000-year history, allows us to create wines that are unlike any other.

We strongly believe that each year should bring new lessons and opportunities for experimentation, and we will continue to explore new methods while staying rooted in the rich history and tradition of our winery.

Your novelties

At Domaine L&R Kox, innovation and experimentation are at the heart of what we do. One of our latest novelties is ‘Riverrun’, a unique co-ferment product that combines 50% apple juice with 50% Rivaner grape. The result is a refreshing and flavourful wine that is bottled under pressure to create a light effervescence.

In addition to ‘Riverrun’, we are proud to offer a range of wines that are produced without sulfites. We understand that many people are sensitive to sulfites, which is why we have made it a priority to produce high-quality wines that can be enjoyed by everyone.

While we have many exciting innovations and plans in the works, we like to keep some surprises for the future. Our door is always open and we invite visitors to our winery to discover more about our wines and learn about our latest creations.

Your favourite product

Choosing a favourite product is a tough question for any wine producer, even though it looks the easiest one. At Domaine L&R Kox, our wines are like our children, I think most of the wineries are like that too. We have a special connection with each and every one of them. However, if I had to choose only one, I would say that the Saint Laurent grape holds a special place in our hearts. This Luxembourgish red grape variety and my father, Laurent, have the same name. We planted the first Saint Laurent vineyard in the early 2000s.

While Luxembourg is mostly known for its white wines, we wanted to produce exceptional red wines as well, and Saint Laurent has proven to be the perfect grape for us. As we head into spring and summer, I highly recommend trying our Saint Laurent rosé. You can try to name better Duo but the combination of this local grape variety with a sunny day is truly unbeatable.
