Father's Day 2023: my dad, the hero!

Since the 1960s, fathers in Luxembourg have been honoured every first Sunday in October with “Pappendag”. A not-to-be-missed event in the country, Father’s Day is celebrated in many homes. Letzshop can help you organise a day to remember.

King of Father’s Day

This day is dedicated to her. At last the alarm goes off. The children hurried down the stairs to join Mum, who was busy in the kitchen. Dad is already awake too, of course, but he’ll wait quietly for the children to come and get him. This is the ritual. The first step in this day like no other is to invite dad to a competitive breakfast, to get him in the mood!

The smell of coffee and freshly baked croissants wafts through the house. During this moment of family sharing, Dad becomes the lucky recipient of pretty drawings and delicious chocolates. After the hand-made gifts, the children will give him a superb gourmet box, especially for Father’s Day.

An unforgettable Father’s Day

It’s a joyful morning for the whole family. The children have orchestrated a fun and creative programme, with the support of their mum. So it’s off to the playroom for a karaoke battle. As Dad often sings, and does it very well, he wins first prize: a case of practical tools!

It’s already time for the aperitif. The refrains of French and Anglo-Saxon songs still fill the air in the house. It’s time to toast this special day with Dad’s favourite champagne, which has been chilling for a few days. And so that everyone in the family can raise a glass to Dad’s health, Mum has ordered a delicious grape juice.

A rewarding Father’s Day

For lunch, the little family were treated to an original culinary voyage with specialities from the succulent Sri Lankan cuisine. At the table, Dad takes the opportunity to share his stock of jokes, which are not always up to date, but the laughter continues throughout the meal. The afternoon turned out to be more studious. Dad is an unconditional fan of history, so the children had the idea of visiting the National Museum of Resistance and Human Rights in Esch-sur-Alzette. Its publications are aimed at the general public, making it a great way to experience a cultural and historical outing as a family. Dad’s sure to find an interesting book in the museum shop to learn more and add to his already impressive library!

Father’s Day in review

Father’s Day is drawing to a close. The emotions were intense. When they got home, the children were tired, but they were also so happy to see their dad so happy. They’re fast asleep, with their heads full of memories. Dad sits in the armchair, listening to his jazz playlist. The house is quiet. Dad can be proud of his family.

The Letzshop team would like to wish all dads a very happy festive season!
